Malternative Belgium Cognac #39 L'Horizon Perdu (Lot 96)

Dieser Cognac wurde von Marie Foucher aus Ugni Blanc Trauben in Fins Bois (Cognac), Frankreich hergestellt.

Er reifte für 27 Jahre in einem Fass aus französischer Eiche und wurde 2024 (04/2024) von Malternative Belgium in Fassstärke mit 59.34% abgefüllt. Für die Destillation wurde eine Alambic Charentais (Pot Still) verwendet.

Malternative Belgium schreibt zum Cognac #39: "This Cognac was distilled in Foussignac in '96. The commune of Foussignac is located in the Fins Bois appellation. The 29 hectares of vineyards of this cognac house are located between Foussignac and Triac/Roissac, which is just on the border with the appellation Grande Champagne. The location, and thus the terroir, of these vineyards ensures that these cognacs may be considered very aromatic and among the top of this cru. The vineyards were planted in the 1960s. It was Mrs. Foucher's father who started the cultivation and distillation, Marie took over in 1980. The third selection of Malternative Belgium from Marie's cellars, but this cognac is thus the first distilled by Marie herself! 

We met Marie Foucher in the summer of 2023. With 42° degrees it was one of the hottest days of 2023, you would think that this is not the ideal weather to taste cognac. Nothing was further from the truth! Marie took us on a journey through the history of her cognacs. With plenty of punishing stories and amusing anecdotes, we were able to return home with new experiences fulfilled. Besides cognac, Marie is also passionate about travel & art. Enough to talk about. Her typical Charentaise square house breathes history and craftsmanship and the cognac cellars are proof that time and patience are a virtue.

This single cask is our third selection from Ms. Foucher's cellars. This cask contained a total of 311 bottles and was previously split with a fellow indy bottler.   

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fresh ginger and exotic spices color the palette, along with a soft funkyness, floral notes and ripe fruits.   
Taste: A firm boy, very present but also fine ripe flavors! Nectarine, jasmine, lemon leaf and turmeric. 
Finish: Sweet pepper and cedar, tobacco and ripe white plums. A long and fresh finish balanced with nutty notes and mint. 

Label explanation: 
The artwork on the label is inspired by the boundless passion for craft. “L'Horizon perdu” (The lost horizon), one of those rare moments when the boundary between heaven and earth blurs, and the vineyards seem to float in a sea of mist. The loss of time. Each visit to Marie Foucher, time stands still for a moment, we enjoy stories and fantastic cognacs that have been overtaken by time."
